My experiences with research projects have been different from most of what my peers experience seem to be. I enjoy the process of writing a research paper. Expanding my knowledge on a subject that I am assigned whether it is what I wanted or not, is rewarding for me. I believe that knowledge is power and research papers help you with that.
My research question came from something I have had first-hand experience with, how does society and social media affect young girls? From my own personal experience, social media and society puts a lot of pressure on women to look, think, and act a certain way. For my paper, I decided to write a Op-Ed piece. I have a strong opinion that social media oozes toxic behavior and young women, who are easily influenced by this, get sucked into the toxic environment.
In my blog post Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In, you can see that I explain how the films we watched have an impact of my being, knowing, and doing. I explain how as a society we need to fix what is wrong and has been taught to young boys and girls about how they are perceived. While in my other blog post, Analyzing the script of Miss Representation and The Mask You Live in, I break down the script of the films into 3 genres. A slug line, a six word memoir, and a found poem. Breaking down these texts have helped my understanding of the concepts of the films better which has lead me to having a better time writing my paper. Which leads me to my other blog post, Plato's Cave, Miss Representation, and The Mask You Live In, I explain how the video of Plato's Cave and the films Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In are all similar in their meanings, a twisted view of how we perceive society 'norms' and how to feel, think, and act.
In my last blog post, Breaking Down My Research Project, I explain my process of writing my first draft. I explain how I had an extremely hard time even picking a topic that I wanted to narrow down. I questioned my own experiences and had to look back at some tough and embarrassing times where I allowed social media to influence how I was, felt, and how I never thought for myself. Come to find out that I was not alone, multiple women have struggled with the same thing and are continuing to grow from their experiences and in my research paper I show you how they have overcome it.
